RR on IPL 2023 Auction

Rajasthan Royals signed West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder for INR 5.75 crore in the IPL 2023 mini-auction on Friday (December 23).

They also signed star Australian spinner Adam Zampa for his base price of INR 1.5 crore and South African wicketkeeper-batter Donovan Ferreira for a price of INR 50 lakh to cover every possible area ahead of the 2023 season.

They concluded the day with the surprise signing of former England captain Joe Root for a base price of INR 1 crore.

The IPL 2022 runners-up made their first bid during the IPL 2023 auction for English batter Harry Brook but lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad with only INR 13.2 crore available in their purse.

The Royals’ next bid for Jason Holder, who plays for Barbados Royals in CPL, beat Chennai Super Kings with the winning bid of INR 5.75 crore.

The Royals also opened bidding for Sam Curran, Ben Stokes, Nicholas Pooran, Shivam Mavi, and Mayank Dagar but were beaten by competitors due to their low-budget purse.

But in the accelerated round, they managed to sign South African wicketkeeper-batter Donovan Ferreira for INR 50 lakh, who will be a quality backup option to Samson and Buttler.

RR Key Players in IPL 2023

Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler is back in the IPL 2023 after earning an orange cap during England’s T20 World Cup run last year. He currently leads his team as the highest run scorer with 65 runs scored.

Rajasthan Royals have retained the Englishman, along with Purple Cap holder Yuzvendra Chahal and several match winners such as Ravichandran Ashwin, Yashasvi Jaiswal and young pacers Kuldeep Sen and Navdeep Saini.

He has scored an impressive 863 runs in 17 matches for the Royals during IPL 2022, leading them to re-sign him for an additional fee of INR 10 Crore. With extensive experience in the Indian Premier League and being one of the most consistent batsmen in this format, his success is no surprise.

He is an impressive all-rounder in ODI cricket, scoring an incredible 722 runs in 18 matches for the Royals – making him their highest individual scorer.

The Royals will be looking to bolster their middle order in the 2023 auction. They already have Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal as opening pairs, but lack a back-up batter.

Potential additions could include Mumbai left-arm spinner Shams Mulani or Himachal Pradesh’s batting allrounder Sumeet Verma from India to bolster their middle order.

Prasidh Krishna

Prasidh Krishna was an impressive presence in the Rajasthan Royals’ T20 squad last season, taking 19 wickets for them in IPL 2022 to help them finish atop of the league table.

Additionally, he proved his mettle in ODI matches too, appearing in 14 matches and picking up 25 wickets at an economy rate of 8.29.

Jason Holder

Rajasthan Royals have acquired all-rounder Jason Holder in the IPL 2023 auction for 5.75 crores. Last season, Holder represented Lucknow Super Giants and was picked up at this price point.

He boasts an impressive record in T20 cricket, having scored 1758 runs at a strike rate of over 125. Additionally, he has taken 197 wickets during this format of play.
